Round 2 of the 2018/19 North Wales Cyclocross League: Parc Eirias

Rhos on Sea Cycling Club welcomes competitors to Parc Eirias (Erias Park) in Colwyn Bay.  Eirias Park  was built in the 1920s and retains its quintessential charm a century later.  Originally called  “The Park by the Sea,” it nowadays   hosts rugby internationals,  championship athletics, rock concerts and, recently, BBC Proms in the Park.   It is home to  a thriving community leisure centre and  the  RGC North Wales Rugby Team and  Academy.   In its recent past Eirias Park  hosted the Welsh Cyclocross Championships

This predominantly grassy course takes in rolling parkland, mature woodland  and even a small brook.  In wet conditions, Eirias can be amongst the muddiest of venues.  Even in the dry it presents a non-stop sequence of tight turns and negative cambers.

Parking instructions: Follow “Cycle Event” signs and park in the car park in front of the stadium.

Please come early.   Race HQ gazebo will be erected in the car park area from 10am onwards.

For 2018 NWCX is requiring 100% online entries with Nifty  except for the childrens’ beginers race and the novice adults’ race.  These beginners’ races will accept entries on the day.  All other races, whether Junior, Youth or Senior,  will be Nifty entry online in advance.   This ruling  provides  HQ team sufficient time to issue timing chips, a new feature for 2018.

It is intended that  chip timing will improve scoring for competitors and reduce burdens on volunteers. Please be patient:  Eirias Park will be only our second race with timing chips.   Officials and competitors are still building experienceswith the new kit.

Timings:
10:00 -11:30 Registration. There will be no registration after 1130.

11:00 Novice Children -( 10mins ) £2 (entry on the day)

11.20 Race#1:U8s, U10s, U12s   ( 20mins ) £3 Nifty Online Only

12:00  Race#2:  U14s, U16s,  ( 30mins )  £5 Nifty Online Only    + Adult beginners £5 (entry on the day)

13.15 Race #3: Senior race (M/F, Vets, U18s)   60mins   U18: £8 Nifty Online Only,    All Seniors  £14 Nifty Online Only

(Vets will be classified V40, V50,  V60+ subject to participant numbers )

Warning: The first races of the year are busy.  If you have not already collected your race number at Round #1 please arrive early to collect your race number.

Competitors retain numbers. This stays with you for all season so keep it safe between races. Replacement numbers will be charged at £3 per set and cause major inconvenience with timing chip allocations. Please look after your race numbers.

Newcomers regardless of age, gender or ability are welcome. You can race on a cyclocross bike or a mountain bike.  Parents:  children enjoy cyclocross. If unsure don’t be afraid to ask. We make it easy for children, especially newcomers. Most of our beginners make rapid progress.

Adult newcomers of all abilities are welcome. Beginners  are invited to try the Novice Adult race.  This starts alongside the U14s/16s  and provides a graduated introduction.

Competitors must hand back their race chips at the finish enclosue. Each chip cost NWCX £30+vat.  You will be billed for the full cost if you fail to hand back your chip.
